I watched him, wondering why I was concerned.  Cause he was like me...well beyond the literal as I saw him become translucent, and saw the code running through like blood through veins.  Help?  Talk about stumbling in waaaay over your head.  But my eyes had been opened to another down side of all this beyond popping in naked as the day you were born in some strangers place.

Looking where he indicated, I was amamzed at how I processed information.  Help, police, copter...phone lines.

'Not like you think...hang on..'

I left out the small detail that I didn't exactly try this before with a passenger.  But I had adopted a line of thinking of my being a kind of program.  Grasping his 'hand' I ran a process, one I hoped, considering it was on the fly, that would keep him attatched...the code  'networking' us as the correct term would have been.  Like I was a host and his was a machine attatched.  Anyway, moving towards the phone jack I gave him a look as if to say ready?

Didn't wait, my form grew more translucent until it was a haze...in running that 'process' and him being networked, it was like a command from the mothership to the smaller alien craft.  Hopefully he wouldn't fight it...

Destination, phone lines.  I figured if I needed data bits to travel then a phone line was good enough.  Hell, you had dial up...Once in, I got my bearings, checking to see if he had came along for the ride...  Now it was just finding the right map of comms...hmmm gonna have to ping a thing or two...

I heard her words but didn’t register them until a moment later when I found myself in the data stream. ‘All units in hot pursuit’, ‘We have to take him down’, ‘do not, repeat do not shoot to kill’ ‘take him alive’…various radio messages whizzed by and stung my digital flesh. The ride was more of a drag through a thorn bush than a smooth cruise, but that’s what I get for letting a woman ‘drive’. Bouncing like a ping pong ball from system to system. I felt like I was going to be sick once more, it was becoming a habit. Letting go of her I ripped out into the air. My body becoming flesh a little higher above the ground than I would have liked. Landing with a crouch, the phone line I had spawned from swung down slapping the side of a building. Colatoral damage was not my concern.

I saw the huge reptile heading my way this time I was ready. Slamming my hand on the car besides me, my body became cold steel. The nova must have thought he’d run straight over me because he slammed into me, pushing me back a few feet before I lifted him into the air.

“I am not your enemy”

I spoke the words with a cold gravely tone that even surprised me. Looking to the case which the creature gripped like his life depended on it, I turned my gaze back upon him.

“Why do you need the money?”

The creature hissed thrashing at me with his tail. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt. Yet I managed to hold him, even as his claws scratched my metallic skin.

“…erassssssssse the taint….SSsssss”

He didn’t say much but I understood reading more into his plight than his simple words explained.

“Go”

Releasing him, I stepped into the line of fire between the reptile and the authorities. Bullets pinged off my flesh like a thousand tiny wasps stinging me. Step one was insuring the reptile’s escape step two was getting my own arse out of there. Looked like I was less than popular with the tit-heads(police) nothing new there.

Managing the data stream, that was easy for her, able to dodge the data bits that weren't of her concern, though he was fighting that.  She would have frowned, but she was trying to keep from sending data.  She was jsut along for the ride.  Feeling him terminate the process, rather crudely, the shock stunned her a bit before registering.

She created a buffer to reside where she was, listening through dispatch, using the time to ping and seek out a mainframe or something that could get her on Net.  Why didn't she just keep going?

She wasn't sure really.  She heard the lines buzzing about firing on 'it'  Well that was helpful  Wait, what was that?  Ohh cable, how do I love thee.  She hopped next door.

Now this is more like it.  Broadband.  Pinging, she talked with how was using the line, looking for pathways, making her own crude form of a browser, she found the mainframe they used for dispatch.  Hello mister police officers.

Reading the dispatches versus hearing them, she gauged thes ituation hovering outside.  They were firing, but  nothing was happening.  Calling in what?? You know, now would be a great time to wanna get outta there.
